Old Sodhi and young Amar begin to bond and Sodhi accompanies Amar to Burma (Myanmar) for an assignment from BBC to shoot a documentary on the students against the Militar...。故事发生在20世纪20年代美国经济萧条时期，工人查理在工厂干活、发疯、进入精神病院，这一切都是与当时的经济危机给人们带来的生存危机有着密切的联系。而在艰难的生活中，查理和孤女相濡以沫，场面温馨感人焕发着人性的光辉。。一个为了追逐电影梦想的大龄北漂余小宝（姜峰饰）隐瞒了自己拮据苦闷的生活现状，在老家的女儿小妮（戴佳佳饰）面前描述自己已经做了导演。女儿带着几个同学突然坐上北京的火车“看望导演爸爸”，让刚刚才当上剧照师的余小宝猝不及防。 为了不让女儿在同学们的眼里变成“骗子”，余小宝必须在女儿乘坐的火车到达北京之前，想尽一切办法成为“导演”。他只能求助于自己的北漂朋友们。这些北漂中的“非成功者”决定想尽一切办法建一个“剧组”，拍摄一场由余小宝导演的“电影”。至少，不能在小姑娘们面前露馅。。
