该片讲述停住时间的男人和流逝时间的女人，往返于过去和现在的矛盾的故事，是往返于现代和三国时代的罗曼史奇幻惊悚题材。。在一个平静的夜晚，面目狰狞的德里克（麦克·切克里斯 Michael Chiklis 饰）带领两名跟班，手持枪械闯入查理（史蒂芬·朗 Stephen Lang 饰）所经营的咖啡餐馆。此时这里三三两两坐着几名正享受夜晚宁静时光的客人，突如其来的变故让他们惶恐异常。求财心切的匪徒得知咖啡馆的时间锁保险柜必须等到午夜12点才能打开，虽然气急败坏却也只能勉强等待。就在此时，巡警威尔（福里斯特·惠特克 Forest Whitaker 饰）走入餐馆。这名经验丰富的警察敏锐发觉店内的诡异气氛，只是威尔的心中似乎也藏着什么秘密。 事后从昏迷中苏醒的一名人质那里，断断续续拼凑出现场发生的有些矛盾吊诡一切……。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
