某部救护长纪娴和军医林瑛接到电报去江城，在列车上，她们回忆起战时的情景……前方已经打响了，可"三八"女子救护队却被师后勤部程副部长派出的岗哨关在山沟里不准进入战区进行救护，这可急坏了女兵们。副军长的女儿潘凡凡敢想敢做，出了一条妙计，她领着女兵们脱掉外衣，装作去洗澡，吓得小哨兵背过脸去，她们趁机冲过岗哨，这样，她们截回来一卡车伤员。女兵们的求战热情感动了程副部长，师首长的批评也使他改变了怕出事的思想，终于批准了女兵们的要求，并亲自为她们送行。女子战地救护队向前沿进发了。林瑛这时也沉湎在回忆之中。她的父亲是大学教授，出于门第观念极力反对她与解放军排长许杰相爱，她违心地和许杰分手了。这次在前沿她意外地遇到了许杰，听到他充满柔情地给战士们读女友的情书，她为许杰的幸福心中感到一丝宽慰。当许杰带领全排冲锋时受伤牺牲后，林瑛在他的口袋中翻到了那封未婚妻了来信，原来...。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
