本剧为一廿集中篇处境剧，每集均有独立主题，故事环绕着一妇女团体“八娥会馆”发生，会馆由一群来自中上阶层的女性组成：会长赵关得英(李香琴)、对头人马惠(缃旖)、以夫为荣的贾玉芬(唐丽球)、才女唐咏诗(邱月清)等。这几名女子明争暗斗、互相利用，为大众情人葛德华(邓浩光)而争风呷醋，闹得会馆翻天覆地。十八年前，萧贵妃偷换皇后嫡女并欲杀之。女婴大难不死，被救出宫抚养，取名桑晚。 十八年后，为寻生母，桑晚入宫为婢，竟被分至皇后宫中。虽得皇后喜爱，母女却不相识。在假公主的屡次陷害下，母女几近相残。真相大白时，皇后悔恨不已。。CITY OF GOLD is about the transformative power of food and food writing in how we experience where we live.
